Can We Get The Whole Alex Bregman Signing Figured Out?

Last Updated: February 12, 2025By Tags: , ,

The NBA trade deadline is now behind us, so we can move onto the next thing on the checklist. Can we get the Alex Bregman signing taken care of now?

It’s been a legit two months of third party reporting on what Alex Bregman is looking for or which teams are the new front runners to land him. First it was that he wanted a longer contract, then he was flexible. Then there it was just the Red Sox and Tigers, then an Astros reunion was suddenly in play too. Scott Boras is putting Tigers fans through the fucking ringer, and it’s time to get this deal done.

The Tigers are now at a point where they’re internal rebuild is just about complete, and you now can start adding external pieces of the puzzle to this lineup. Pair that with the obvious need Detroit has at third base, Alex’s connection to AJ Hinch, and the overall energy this team has after their unexpected playoff run last year and Alex Bregman makes TOO much sense here in Detroit. But alas, this weird not-signing saga continues. It’s not clear which side the hesitancy is coming from, but it’s just weird at this point. What more does either side need to do?

We all know that Chris Ilitch announced his divorce last week, which should only increase the likelihood of this signing. Divorced at 60 means reckless spending. Reckless spending means giving Alex Bregman whatever he wants to don the old English D. He already started with the Flaherty signing, so let’s just keep it going and get this taken care of for fucksake.

Oh, and just as a reminder of what Bregman would mean to Detroit, the 30 year old is a right handed bat in a lineup of mostly lefties, and just won his first Gold Glove award. Even in what was considered a down year for Breg, this is how he ranks compared to our shit offensive lineup in 2024…

Batting Average: .260 (T-3rd)

OPS: .768 (3rd)

RBIs: 75 (1st)

Homeruns: 26 (1st)

Walks: 44 (2nd)

Hits: 151 (1st)

Get. It. DONE.
