Chris Ilitch has gone too far
You may or may not like every move Chis Ilitch has made relating to the Tigers and Red Wings. But we should all agree, he’s gone too far this time.
As I sit here and write this, I am heart-broken. I was beginning to come around on Chris Ilitch and then he pulled a stunt like this and I’m all the way out, once again. Sure, Ilitch treats our beloved teams as business cash-cows. Sure, he clearly doesn’t care about winning as much as his dad, but maybe he had seen the light after seemingly going all in on Bregman. It didn’t work out, but the effort and offers were there. Maybe, just maybe, Chris had suddenly fallen in love with our sports teams the same way Mike did. And then some images came out of Comerica Park and crushed fans everywhere.
It seems, for the time being at least, Chris has replaced the iconic script ‘Tigers’ on the top of the scoreboard with a boring old ‘Comerica Park’.

Obviously I was hurt by this, but what really sent me off the edge was a few different images that surfaced a few days after the Tigers/Comerica reveal. I regret to inform everyone that the runway from home plate to the pitching mound has… been removed. What is left is just a boring island mound that all other MLB parks have. I’m disgusted.

There were multiple years growing up that I assumed every ballpark in America had that runway. It was so synonymous with a ballpark I figured everyone had one. When I found out that only a few did, it made it that much better. Eventually Detroit was the last one standing, and I loved it. In such a pitchers-park, that connection between pitcher and catcher was beautiful. But no. Ilitch has taken that from us. Some will say it’s due to analytics. It’s apparently come out that it was player driven and that they were the ones who wanted it removed. Maybe so. I don’t care.
I’m at the What’s New event hosted by the Detroit Tigers.
Ryan Gustafson President and CEO of Ilitch Entertainment welcomed us and fielded two questions right off the rip.

Stop taking the things we love Chris. Even though the Whales weren’t his doing, I’m going to throw that on him too. We’ve already been hit with the injury bug and Opening Day isn’t for another week. Has Ilitch pissed off the baseball Gods and cursed this team? People are asking. This has ‘Priority Waste’ patch written all over it.
What’s next? Is Chris going to take away the tigers that prowl on top of the scoreboard? Or maybe he’ll move on to bigger things and take away the Spirit of Detroit. Shame on you, Chris. Shame.
