Michigan Baseball Player Admires White Line Down 3rd Base

Over the past weekend, Michigan baseball player Mitch Voit caught criticism for a cocaine inspired celebration.

While people clutched their pearls over a largely harmless act (b-but, think of all the kids watching regular season college baseball during March Madness!), we should applaud the young man for several important gamesmanship elements.

First of all, I have to say, I respect the fact that he never took his hand off the base. That’s textbook baserunning right there.

Secondly, he did it when Michigan was up 5-0, demonstrating an awareness of the game and not prematurely celebrating. Had he done this in a closer matchup, I think he could be rightly panned for not having his head in the game.

I will have to dock points though on the fact that this is artificial turf- this would’ve easily been the best coke related celly if he came up with white chalk on his face.

Overall, I think this stacks up quite admirably to the other famous cocaine related celebration…

…but falls just short of that moment’s greatness. Doing this in a game that was watched by subscribers of the Big Ten Plus network pales in comparison to a Premier League matchup, and for that, I say hats off to Robbie. Plus, Fowler snorts the line for a good three seconds before taunting the crowd, and going back for another round- showing real commitment to the bit. He paid pretty dearly for this act, earning a 32k fine and a 4 game suspension- but, in his defense (according to Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier), “he was imitating a cow chewing grass”, and the whole thing was just a giant misunderstanding.
