Red Wings fire sale heating up with the recent dealing of Brendan Smith

Last Updated: April 18, 2019By

Brendan Smith is officially a Ranger. The Detroit Red Wings have dealt the Wisconsin alum to New York for a 2017 3rd round pick and 2018 2nd round pick. And when the trade went down, New York fans were elated when they heard the news:

There were piles and piles more of those but I picked those out to give you a little bit of the overall feeling on the trade. From a Detroit stand point- boy oh boy it feels so good to be on the right side of a transaction. It’s refreshing, isn’t it? But no one was weirdly happier to see Smith go than former kinda Red Wing Mike Commodore for whatever reason.

#PackYourShit LOL okay calm down Mike, did he fuck your girlfriend or something? But I’m dead serious when I say that I am SHOCKED with the return we have gotten thus far for two players I considered borderline non-NHLers in Tomas Jurco and Brendan Smith. For those two seriously irrelevant players the Wings have managed three draft picks over the next two years. If you think I’m exaggerating at how poor these two players were- I’m not. Jeremy Roenick went absolutely HAM on Smith’s broke ass when we got shut out by the Blues at home a few weeks ago:

CBS Detroit

I remember sitting there watching Brendan Smith that game, trying not to throw up in my own Cheerio bowl watching him try to get the puck out of the zone wondering if I was the only one in the world witnessing this pooper scooper try and flip turds through the middle of the ice when JR hit the nail on the head, which is something I rarely say about Jeremy Roenick. Smith’s play gave me PTSD from one of the dumbest penalties I’ve ever seen committed in professional hockey:

Yes, that’s Smith on the bench, knocking an in-play still-live puck out of the air- in the heat of a playoff race in 2015. Yes, Montreal scored on that power play. Yes, it tied the game. And YES, Montreal did win that game in overtime.

B-Smith, you were a true Big Ten, Canadian-hockey-playing bro who I have no doubt did it all for the boys…I mean when Riley Sheahan got pulled over at 20-years-old, wasted, in a Teletubby costume back in 2012, Riley handed the officers your ID. He had it because you were taking care of one of the boys who couldn’t get his swing boogey on because he wasn’t of legal drinking age yet. And that’s legendary all around. It’s something that I don’t talk about enough on this site, but man you pissed me off as a hockey player and the return for you couldn’t have been better. But god speed in New York hombre.

And Kenny, let’s keep this fire sale going. I’m loving the idea of a completely new-look Wings squad come 2018. #lgrw 🍾
