9-7 isn’t good enough, but 9-24-1 is jussssttttt perfect 👌🏼.
We all know the quote. We all feel the pain. Bob Quinn fired Jim Caldwell after two seasons of going 9-7, which looking back at it looks like the good old days compared to what we’re dealing with today. 9-7 feels like a luxury, a dream season, hell, a powerhouse contender versus what we are forced to watch on Sunday’s now.
Someone I know described it as masochism at this point, and I completely agree. It’s fucked up how we keep watching this team week in and week out, year after year, it’s the definition of insanity. Over these past couple weeks (hard to believe we are only two weeks in and 98% of the fan base is fully on board with throwing this season in the trash) I have been wracking my brain for the lone bright spot on the team. The obvious answer is Matthew Stafford. But even he doesn’t have enough around him to be productive, and he’s not the type of talent in year 12 of his career to completely carry an entire team, he’s just not. I love the man to death and he’s my favorite NFL player but you can’t expect him to take this team who gives up 42 points a week, and has no consistent playmakers to throw to, to carry this porous team to the promise land (promise land = 9-7). Even when he does everything he needs to do to win a game, the team around him fails.
But look. I’m not here to martyr-ize Staff. I’m here to tell you I made a new t-shirt making fun of this horrible team that we have a sick, toxic love affair with. It’s like your ex you swear you’re not going to visit after the lights come on at the bar, except the ex here is the Lions, and the bar lights coming on is Sunday, and instead of having sex you fall down a flight of stairs. Either way after it’s all done you’re just sad, confused, exhausted, and drunk. I don’t even know where I’m going with this anymore. It’s only week two.
Here’s the shirt: Link to shirt
That kinda went off the rails. I hope you like the shirt. I hope they fire Matt Patricia, and I hope the Ford’s sell the team. I’m not even sure if I’m happy football is back anymore.
