Andy Isaac: The King of Detroit Sports
If you’ve spent any time in the last ten years on Detroit Sports Twitter (and I use Twitter here specifically), odds are you’ve come across @WorldofIsaac, the handle for Andy Isaac. Isaac, the “Sausage King of Detroit” was one of the earliest and most popular voices in the Detroit sports “social media scene”, endearing many (including myself) with his rants about MSU hoops, “Faturday” videos (eating and touring some under-appreciated food gems in the Metro-Detroit area), and his therapeutic post-game laments over whatever SOL thing just happened to the Lions (almost as equally as popular as his compilations of “Fuck the Bears” videos). Having been a life-time lurker of Detroit Sports Twitter, Andy’s posts felt like an essential part of my pre-game rituals.
Like many, I was saddened to see Andy’s post this past week where he announced that he was entering hospice care after a long battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I vaguely knew of his cancer diagnosis, as he would occasionally post updates on various treatments, but the severity of it never seemed to imprint on me, as Andy was always full of laughter and charm in his videos. Seeing the outpour of love for Andy culminated in each of the Detroit sports teams posting a #Faturday tribute on their jumbotrons prior to their games this weekend- a small way to show love to one of the Greats of Detroit sports.

Andy is one of the genuinely bright parts of social media, specifically Twitter/X, in a space that now increasingly feels run amuck with insidious, toxic posters. When Twitter first rolled out, it felt like one of those places that realized the bright promise of social media: a place where like-minded people could find community and friendship. Andy embodies that. Despite going through an unimaginable struggle with illness, Andy was a guy who always brought joy and laughter to people and the internet is genuinely a more shitty place without his presence. Although we’ve never met, his words in his latest post have been something that I think we should all take to heart: “Be kind to each other. I love you all.”
Here at Champagne Athletics, we wish the best to one of the True GOATs of Detroit Sports: Andy Isaac. Thank you for making all of our lives just a little more joy-filled. Long live #faturday, and as always..
