Kangaroo in the city is the most Detroit-like occurrence ever

Yeah sure, I know, this has nothing to do with sports. And I even tried to think of a way to make it into some good omen for the Tigers this season. But at the end of the day, this is just a sign of the weather heating up in the Motor City.
Repeat after me: The warmer things get, the weirder things get. And this video does a pretty damn good job of showing just how how weird things can get in a hurry with a little bit of nice weather. While this video is great, the little bit of backstory behind it by the Detroit News is even better (story in bold)
A kangaroo in a video clip that went viral after it was spotted hopping down a Detroit street has been identified. The exotic animal is named Darwin, according to his handler, Javon Stacks of Exotic Zoo. He’s a 2-year-old red kangaroo. The Snapchat video posted on Twitter had drawn nearly 10,000 retweets by Tuesday afternoon. In the video, a man, apparently Stacks, is seen running down Birchcrest Drive with a 4-foot-tall kangaroo on a leash. A small crowd can be seen watching.
“…a man, apparently Stacks…” cause when you have a Twitter video uploaded by $now❄️ of a man in the middle of a Detroit street with a kangaroo on a leash you are generally going to end up with an owner who identifies simply as “Stacks.”
Stacks said he was in the neighborhood for a birthday party. “The kangaroo is too big to be in the house,” Stacks said. “The birthday kid and all their friends wanted to see him hop around. Someone was driving by and took that video.” As of Monday afternoon, Detroit Animal Control said they were investigating the kangaroo’s appearance in Detroit. “We have field teams out to drive the area, speak to citizens,” said Kelly McLaughlin, spokeswoman for Detroit Animal Control. McLaughlin said it’s illegal to own an exotic animal in the city. However, Stacks, who would only say he’s based in Michigan, said his traveling zoo is licensed. During the past 10 years Stacks said he’s traveled to schools, libraries and private parties with exotic birds, reptiles and mammals.
Who all seen the kangaroo say YEEEEEAAHHHHH!
McLaughlin said it’s not everyday Detroit Animal Control receives calls about an exotic animal sighting. “Half a dozen times a year commonly,” she said. “We’ve had in the past alligators, snakes and mini horses. Things of that sort. Never a kangaroo. This is our first.”
This whole story from tweet to finish is so Detroit it hurts. Shit like this MAY happen other places, but only in Detroit does it feel like the norm. And while I wish this exotic animal on a leash story took the cake for weird shit caught on tape, I still gotta give it to the early morning ass-eating before a Lions game back in December 2015.
God bless this city I call my home. 🍾
