The Lions: Where we stood on 12/5/16

Last Updated: December 5, 2016By

The date this post was written was Monday, December 5th, 2016. The game I am about to refer to happened the Sunday prior on December 4th, 2016.

The Detroit Lions have just defeated the New Orleans Saints. The score was a convincing 28-13. The Lions picked off Drew Brees three times, held him without a touchdown, and maintained the top spot in the NFC North with a record of 8-4 by a margin of two games over the Green Bay Packers. This is all after starting 1-3.

The Detroit football world is up in flames with what happened yesterday. I wanted to title this article “What fucking team did I just watch” for how much of a complete game the Lions played yesterday. You just don’t see this kind of shit out of the historic dumpster fire we’ve all grown to hate. I mean, Drew Brees had thrown a TD at home 60 games in row prior to Sunday. SIX-TEE. That record started in 2009 and was ended by a Leo’s defense without Tahir Whitehead, DeAndre Levy (LOL) and a banged up Ziggy.

Frat Boy is second on the team in rushing, Golden Tater Tot’s big play ability is alive and well, and Matt Prater is the second coming of a recovering alcoholic Jesus Field Goal Kicking Christ the Messiah.

God, I love that guy.

Fans are riding high, and needless to say the media is taking this shit to the next level with headlines like…

that. I mean, seriously, look at that opening line to that last CBS article. Sweet God, Pete, keep it in your fucking pants we don’t even have the division locked down yet.

These articles suggest our Leo’s have THE legitimate MVP under center, have more than a legit chance to take over mighty Seattle for the #2 seed in the NFC, could contend for a SUPER BOWL, and that JIM CALDWELL MIGHT BE COACH OF THE YEAR.

You’d think I’d put winning the Super Bowl last as being the hottest take in those articles, but I’m not sure if you remember after week 4 when our Cardiac Cats were 1-3 and just lost on the road to DOG SHIT Chicago- and everyone wanted Mannequin Challenge Caldwell’s head on a platter. (Credit Barstool with the Caldwell nickname, it’s just so perfect and relevant, I had to use it)

As far as the team went, I’ll put it has my meathead friend put it:

“I thought someone was gonna drive their car strapped with explosives into Ford Field.” ~ Meathead friend

Right now. We’re on top of the world, up 2 games with 4 to play. We are in complete control, we look good, we feel good, and we have a lead. And in a wild 2016 which saw the Cavs win an NBA Championship, the Cubs prevail over the Indians en route to a World Series championship, and Trump winning the presidency, the psychos of Detroit are also thinking- why not us?

The day this article will post will be the day of this website’s launch on January 1, 2017. The same day the Lions will take on the Packers at home.

Will we look back to this week and say “That was the turning point, when I knew we were a good team. And boy howdy does it feel good to have won this division for the first time since 1993!”

Or will it resemble the all too familiar…
